IQNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met and held talks with Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, the vice president of Lebanon’s Supreme Shia Council.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met and held talks with Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, the vice president of Lebanon’s Supreme Shia Council on January 8, 2026.

 

During the meeting on Thursday evening, the two sides discussed regional developments and the situation in Lebanon.

Araghchi traveled to Lebanon on Thursday morning at the head of an economic and political delegation.

He is going to hold talks with the president, prime minister, parliament speaker, economy minister and foreign minister of Lebanon during his visit to the Arab country.

The Iranian top diplomat told reporters upon arrival in Beirut that the purpose of his trip is to exchange views with the Lebanese officials about the current developments in the region.

Lebanon is an important country in the region and plays a major role in regional peace and stability, he stated.

Araghchi noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran is consulting with all regional countries.
